Second Step in Teaching Your Child Math
At the beginning of this step, your child will recognize the amounts from one to twenty. When you have gotten to this point there is sometimes the temptation of going over the old cards over and over again. However, you should not fall into this temptation because your child will just think they are boring. Children are all for learning new numbers and they do not like to go over the old ones over and over again. You can also feel the temptation of testing your child. Don’t do this either. Exams cause invariable tension in the situation on the part of the father or the mother and the children can easily perceive this tension. It is easy to associate the tension learning and the disagreeable situation. Do not forget to show your child love and let him know how much you respect him in any opportunity you get. Remember that math sessions should always be moments of fun and enjoyment and physical affection. They turn into the perfect reward for you and your child. When the child has acquired the basic knowledge of the amounts from one to twenty, he is beginning to start to put together several of these amounts and discover that other amounts are obtained as a result. He is getting ready to start adding. It is very easy to start teaching a child how to do addition equations. Actually, your child has already been going through this process for several weeks while he has been observing the process.
Every time you taught your child a new card with more dots, he would see the sum of one more point. This process turns into something so foreseeable that your child will star to imagine the cards that he has not even seen yet. Nonetheless, he does not have any way of foreseeing or deducting the name that we will give to data “twenty one” it is probable that he has already deducted that the card that we are going to be showing him is going to have the same look than the one of twenty only that it is going to have one more point. Naturally, this process is called addition. He does not know it yet, but he does have a rudimentary concept of what it is and of how it works. It is important to understand that he will have gotten to this point before you start to teach him addition equations for the first time.
