The Brain Develops with Use

Brain surgeons spend almost all their time studying the brain however this is usually done on lab rats, kitties, puppies, monkeys and other animals etc. however, for the most part they do not deal with little children or the people that deal with children. Brain surgeons are aware though of the fact that the brain develops with use. Let’s talk about experiments that are done with animals. In the first place, we have the work of a great brain surgeon and neurophysiologist. The neurophysiologist took two litters of kittens and of puppies and divided them into two equal groups, one as an experimentation group and the other as a control group. In the experimentation group the neurophysiologist placed a little cat in the control group he placed one of the sisters of the cat of the same litt

er. He did the same with each one of the kitties and equally divided the puppies until he had two groups that were perfectly balanced, each one of them with kittens and puppies of the same litter. Then he allowed the kittens and the puppies of the control group be raised in the way these animals are normally raised. However, the animals that were from the experimentation group were simply placed over a table that turned slowly and it was there that they lived through the whole experiment. The table that turned looked similar to those restaurants that spin on sky scrapers in bigger cities. Obviously they turn very slowly. The only difference in what occurred to each one of the groups was, therefore, that the experimentation group only saw what the kitties and puppies that have just been born normally see. When these animals were ten days old, the neurophysiologist began to sacrifice the partner of the kittens and puppies and would

study their brain. He finished sacrificing the last ones on the nineteenth day of

life. What this neurophysiologist discovered in the brains of the experimentation group was something that all the parents of little children should learn by memory. The animals of the of the experimentation group had between 22,8 and a 35,0 by 100 more development in the vestibular areas of the brains than the animals that were in the control group. To explain this in simple words, after a period of ten to nineteen days of seeing a world in movement, the kittens and the puppies of the experimentation group has almost one third more of development in the areas of the brain that rule balance than their brothers and sisters that had not seen the world in movement. This is even more surprising if you consider that a puppy or kitten that is ten days old is still not that much of a thing as a puppy or a kitten. With everything, the animals that had seen a world in movement had almost one third more of brain development and some of them had more than one third.

What does more development mean? Does this mean that the neurophysiologist was able to see one third more of brain cells in his microscope? Not at all, he was able to see the same number of brain cells, but they were one third part greater and more mature. When thinking about the animals of the control group, it is easy to picture average children at the age of three or four years, and when thinking about the kittens and puppies of the experimentation group that had one third more of brain development, it is easy to think about children with brain damage that are able to do extraordinary things such as read. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if the neurophysiologist had taken a third group of kittens and puppies and had left them in the complete darkness. Would they have had an inferior brain development in one third percent? This is exactly what occurs to the new born children of the xingu tribe from the Brazilian Mato Grosso that practically spend the first years of their lives inside dark huts. However the neurophysiologist did not place in a third group of animals and therefore it is impossible to know what would happen.
